MFA for Educators

Engage your students with the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to illustrate themes and concepts in any discipline.

Art and Design 1/23 p.m. & 1/30 a.m.

Class Topic: Art and Design

Goals:

(Overview & big concepts)

How is a designer both an artist and a creative problem solver. Is a design just a plan, or an artwork in itself? Can it be both?

MFA Connections: “D is for Design”

Art-making activity: Design and make the drawings for something you would like to wear or for something you would like to have in your room. Consider measurements, scale, and other information a design drawing should communicate. Include 3 drawn “swatches” of colors, textures or patterns you would use to make that object.

Pre-tour group activity:

Look around the room. When this room was built, someone had to make design decisions about what the room would look like. What sorts of things do you think they thought

about? Do you see anything you like? Anything you would change?
