Learn about abstraction from its beginnings to today.

Arthur Dove, Abstract Expressionism, Contemporary Wing paintings, "Shinique Smith: BRIGHT MATTER"

Art Making Activity:

Create your own abstract painting with traditional and non-traditional tools on canvas.

Pre-tour group activity:

Many people have a "go-to" doodle or pattern they like to draw over and over again. Do you have one? Draw it and share with the group.

Follow-up activity:

In the next week, looks for interesting colors, textures, and lines in the details of your environment. Zoom in on what you find until you can't tell what object it came from; until it becomes an "abstraction." Take a picture or make a quick sketch. Try sharing these in our virtual classroom for all of us to see!
