Shifting Values in Renaissance Art

This lesson will help students explore the shift in European society's values from the Medieval period to the Renaissance through artwork. Many of these values, such as individualism, experimentation, humanism/clacissism, and challenges to authority can be identified through the art of the Renaissance. The Renaissance, which is widely known for its unique and innovative approach to art create a wonderful parallel to those taking place throughout European society. Examples from both the Medieval and Renaissance periods will be used to illustrate this shift.
