Charlotte Doyle Gallery

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi is a novel appropriate to the middle school reading level. It follows Charlotte, a well bred thirteen year old girl, as she travels on the brig ship, Seahawk, from Liverpool, England to Providence, Rhode Island in the year 1832.

The photo collection here is of valuable use in studying the type of ship, itself. Then, in later slides, using the artwork from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, students are asked to decide on the best depiction of various characters in the novel.
