Inscription

Obverse: at top, in Devnagari, 3 line inscription. By Ganga- Even if she embraces him no one will know because his color will not come on his complexion. She is always golden and he dark ( the color of the touchstone). The gold always rubs off on the touchstone but not the color of the touchstone on the gold.

Provenance

Given to the MFA in 1917 by Denman Waldo Ross. Purchased in 1917 from Ananda Coomaraswamy. Purchased by Coomaraswamy in India prior to 1916.
