Tetradrachm of Heliopolis with bust of Macrinus

Obverse: Laureate, draped (?) bust of Macrinus to right. Inscription in Greek. Reverse: Eagle standing, wings outspread, head to left with wreath in beak. Below, lion to right with star above. Inscription in Greek.

One of a hoard of coins found in a pottery jar at Gush Halav in Upper Galilee and acquired by Major H. Ophir in Nazareth in 1948; by 1969: with Robert E. Hecht, Jr.; purchased by MFA from Robert E. Hecht, Jr., April 11, 1973
