Tetradrachm of Antioch with bust of Macrinus

Obverse: Laureate, draped, cuirassed bust of Macrinus to right. Inscription in Greek. Reverse: Eagle, wings spread, head to right with wreath in beak, stands on leg and thigh. Greek letters in field left and right. Inscription in Greek.

One of a hoard of coins found in a pottery jar at Gush Halav in Upper Galilee and acquired by Major H. Ophir in Nazareth in 1948; by 1969: with Robert E. Hecht, Jr.; purchased by MFA from Robert E. Hecht, Jr., November 13, 1974
