Stele of Yay

This yellow limestone stele depicts the Sole Favorite, Priestess of Hathor, Yay, seated and holding a lotus flower. Her figure is executed in raised relief, while the offering formula is done in sunk relief. Traces of color remain on the border.


From Sheikh Farag, debris between graves 533 and 536. 1923: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Egypt. (Accession date: October 20, 1925)
