Probably from the Nile Delta (as suggested by B. V. Bothmer); known to have been copied in Egypt or Europe prior to World War II (text published in Belegstellen to Worterbuch III, 327.2 and Worterbuch V, 521.12, where it is listed as "Statue im Handel (Var 31)"); by 1970, in the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Edgar; given to the MFA by Mr. and Mrs. Edgar in memory of William Stevenson Smith November 10, 1970.
