According to MFA Register of Metalwork: found in 1871 among the ruins of a Roman temple near Ettringen, between Coblenz and Bonn, on the Rhine; by 1887: with Josef Zervas, 346 East 42nd Street, New York; partial gift of Samuel D. Warren and partial purchase by MFA, February 1887, for a total of $ 300.00
