Set of stone beads

Set of twenty-one beads in various colored stones (steatite?). Most are cone-shaped, about 2 cm across bottom, and about 1.3 cm in height, some smaller. All pierced top to bottom for stringing.

Provenance

By 1965: Athens art market; 1968: Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection (said to have been from Boiotia by way of Athens); loaned to MFA by Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius C. Vermeule III, November 7, 1968 (loan number 57.68); gift to MFA from Cornelius C. Vermeule III, March 21, 2001, in memory of Emily Dickinson Townsend Vermeule
