Scaraboid gem with a griffin

Intaglio. Pierced for stringing (horizontal). Motif oriented horizontally. Griffin walking toward the right. Griffin has pointy ears and shaggy mane. Mouth open and tongue visible. Situated on a ground line. Small chip around perforation at back end of griffin.


By date unknown: with Edward Perry Warren (according to Warren's records: Bought in Greece, said from Mycenae.); December 1901; purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren
