Scaraboid gem with Eros

Intaglio. Set in modern gold loop ring. Motif oriented vertically. Youth with curved wings at shoulders, head and heels, running towards left, holding lyre in left hand and filter in right hand. Head in profile, turned back looking right; torso frontal, lower body in profile. Line border.


By 1911: with Edward Perry Warren (bought in Paris from Rollin and Feuardent, 1911 and formerly in the Evans collection according to J. D. Beazley, The Lewes House Collection of Ancient Gems, no. 20); April 5, 1926: loaned to MFA by Edward Perry Warren (as 126.26); November 17, 1927: purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren for $ 161,000.00 (this figure is the total price for MFA 27.647-27.761)
