Solid gold ring (round band) with lapis lazuli scarab of Sheshonq III (823-772 B.C.). Scarab held in narrow gold band. Wire running through scarab wrapped round ring several times at either end of ring.
Said to have been found at Bubastis (Tell Basta), Egypt, by Robert Gordon Faudree [see note 1]; 1959, sold by Faudree to Horace L. Mayer (b. 1899 - d. 1968), Williamstown, MA [see note 2]; to his widow, Florence Ellen Mayer, Williamstown; 1971, gift of Mrs. Mayer to the MFA.
