Painted cow skull (bucranium)

This portion of the crown and the two horns of a cow skull is decorated with red pigment and some traces of black. Red covers much of the horns, plus a line across apex of the remaining crown, while dots cover surrounding area.

Provenance

Said to be from Khozam. 1903: purchased for the MFA from Mohamed Mohassib, Luxor, Egypt by Albert M. Lythgoe as part of a group (03.1956, 03.1957, 03.1960, RES.03.8-RES.03.10) for £3. (Accession Date: September 22, 1993)
