Offering case for a cut of meat

This limestone offering case in the shape of a piece of meat was intended to contain food offerings to the deceased, possibly also magically substituting in the absence of real offerings as well. Both the interior and exterior were originally painted yellow, though only traces of color remain.

From Giza, Tomb G 2381 Z / 128. 1912-13: excavated by the Harvard University-Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; 1913: assigned to the MFA by the government of Egypt. (Accession Date: December 4, 1913)
