Necklace mounted with solidus of Emperor Valens

Numismatic necklace. The gold chain has a Herakles knot as a fastener. The pendant of a gold coin (solidus) of Valens has a palmette and dart mount. (Obv.: pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right: DNVALENS PERFAVG; rev.: Valens with Victoria and labarum: RESTITVTORREI PVBLICAE?).


By 1964: with Ars Antiqua AG, Haldenstrasse 5, Lucerne (Ars Antiqua auction 5, November 7, 1964, Hotel Schweizerhof, Lucerne, lot 159); purchased at the Ars Antiqua auction for MFA by Bank Leu and Co., Bahnhofstrasse 32, Zurich; January 13, 1965: purchased by MFA from Bank Leu and Co.
