Provenance

By 1800: acquired in Egypt by General Jean-Joseph Tarayre (1750-1855), governor of Suez and a friend of Napoleon, who stayed in Egypt from 798-1800); by descent in Tarayre family until 1970s; by 1977: with Jean-Loup Despras, Paris; October 17, 1977, purchased by the MFA from Despras. (Accession date: October 12, 1977)
