Handle of a pitcher (beaked oinochoe)

Start collecting

Rising from a base in the general shape of a palmette, a simple, curved handle, with thumb-rest on top. Below, head of a Siren with long tresses, flanked by discs incised with rosettes. Places for attachment behind discs. Electrolytically cleaned; uneven, pitted brown surface.


By 1958: with Gerd Rosen (auction 31, Berlin, November 24-29, 1958, lot 1929); by 1960: with Münzen und Medaillen, A.G., Malzgasse 25, Basel, Switzerland; April 14, 1960: purchased by MFA from Münzen und Medaillen, A.G. for $ 190.00
