Provenance

1901-1902: excavated by Gennaro Matrone in a room off the peristyle of the villa of the Contrada Bottaro, located a half mile south of Pompeii; ownership granted to Gennaro Matrone by the Italian government; by 1925: with Brummer Gallery, Inc., 55 East 57th Street, New York; purchased by MFA from Brummer Gallery, Inc., June 1, 1933, for $ 15,115.00 (this figure is the total price for MFA 33.496-33.506)
