Figurine of Diana

Start collecting

The extended right hand holds a torch. Her hair is done in the Hellenistic fashion over the forehead, and she may have worn a diadem. Otherwise, she wears a high-girt hunting chiton and boots. Fragment of bow in left hand and remains of quiver on back. Green patina with hard earth encrustation.

Provenance

By 1887: with Luigi Boccanera (said to be from the sanctuary of Diana at Nemi); March 25, 1888: purchased by R. Lanciani from Luigi Boccanera; purchased by MFA from R. Lanciani, 1888, for $493.92 (this figure is the total price of MFA 88.538–88.644 and 89.9–89.31)
