Cylinder seal

Neo-Assyrian drilled style. Cylinder seal depicting bearded hero or genius holding two bearded sphinxes addorsed with a "sacred tree" between them. Above the tree, winged disk with bearded head of a god (Ashur or the sun god Shamash). Crescent, star and goat in the field.

By 1945: with Charles L. Morley (ex. Brett Collection); 1945: purchased by the MFA.* (Accession Date: April 12, 1945) *Two seals, 45.215 and 45.216, were purchased together for $126.
