Commemorative scarab of Akhenaten and Nefertiti

This scarab is inscribed with the names of Akhenaten and Nefertiti and was likely produced to commemorate an event during the king's reign. The former name of Akhenaten, Amenhotep IV, was erased from the bottom of the scarab.

Provenance

By 1970: Nicolaos Ladopoulous collection (said to have been in his family "for many years"); 1973: purchased from Nicolaos Ladapouplos, February 14, 1973.
