Cap from a wheel axle, featuring two crouching animals (lion?) with grotesque heads, large eyes and nose, small detached forelegs, and hind-legs with tail, in low relief. Red bronze, green patina, encrusted.

Provenance

From Luristan, 1930: purchased by the MFA through Mr. Upham Pope.* (Accession date: August 7, 1930) *Ninety-five objects, numbered 30.544-30.637 were purchased as a group for $15,000, plus a $2250 commission.
