Boar, from the rim or shoulder of a large, circular vessel (lebes?)

Start collecting

On a thin, narrow, slightly curved band from the rim or shoulder of a large circular vessel, a boar is at bay. The bristles are indicated by fine incised lines. The curved band has broken away between front and hind feet. Fine, hard green patina.

Provenance

By 1895: with Edward Perry Warren (according to his records: bought in Rome in 1895; said to come from the marshes of Ancona with 10.163); purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren, June 2, 1910, for $4,000.00 (this figure is the total price for MFA 10.159-10.230)
