Amulet of a recumbent ram

This silver amulet represents a recumbent, possibly mummified, ram. The fleece is rendered with incision in a conventionalized patter. There is no suspension ring on the back. A timy gold bead is now adhered to the ram.

Provenance

From Meroe, Beg. W. 179. February, 1922: excavated by the Harvard University-Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA by the government of the Sudan.
