Shawabty of King Piye (Piankhy)

This is a leg and foot fragment of a shawabty of King Piye (Piankhy). There is one unframed column of incised text which includes the lower part of the cartouche on the front of the figure. The ancient Nubians included shawabtys in their tombs only in the Napatan Period, about 750 - 270 B.C....

From el-Kurru Ku 61, originally From el-Kurru, Ku.17 (tomb of Piye (Piankhy). 1919: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of the Sudan.
