This table bears a card beneath the top with the following inscription: This stand was bought / of Jonathan Gavent Dec 15th / 1784 by my Grandfather, / Thomas Holmes. Cost 1.8.0 pounds / Joseph L. Ropes / Salem Ap. 7, 1890. Thomas Holmes lived in Salem. It descended from Joseph L. Ropes to Joseph A. Ropes, who presented it to the Museum
