Teapot with medallion bust

This teapot has a domed, hinged cover with a gourd finial and leafage, a petal-shaped rim, applied scroll handle and spout. There is a medallion of a bust of a man on one side and a plain cartouche on other. There is a pierced band and garlands at the shoulder. It has four tall, leafy feet.

Marked in oval (on bottom): "REDFIELD&RICE/(foilate device)/NEW YORK"

Provenance

Decended in family of Roswell Gleason (1799-1871). January 18, 1984, sold by Mrs. Anne C. Hayward, East Falmouth, MA to MFA.
