Revere's most elaborately ornamented, Rococo pieces, these demonstrate the artist's early mastery of his craft. According to tradition, they were made as a wedding gift from Benjamin Greene to his sister-in-law Lucretia Chandler.

Provenance

Given to Lucretia Chandler (1728-1768) by her brother-in-law. She married John Murray of Rutland, September 1, 1761; their daughter Lucretia (d. 1836); bequeathed by her to Ann W. Goodhue, granddaughter of Colonel Abijah Willard and daughter of Benjamin and Ann Goodhue of Salem; Joseph Willard of Lancaster; his daughter Susanna, from whom the piece was bought before 1925.
