Inscribed below back of neck, on proper right side: "BRUCE/MOORE" Inscribed on side of proper left rim below subject's ear: "1948" Stamped on bottom of base of back: "MODERN ART FDRY.N.Y."

Marks

Incised "1948" and "BRUCE / MOORE" on shoulder of bust; "MODERN ART FDRY" stamped incuse along base of sculpture at rear.

Provenance

Charles Withers had Moore's 1948 clay/plaster version cast by Modern Art Foundry. The bronze bust was given by Withers in 1959 as a wedding gift to his wife, Margret Craver.
