Original owner may have been William Lawrence (1783-1848), textile industry leader along with his brothers Amos and Abbott Lawrence. To his nephew, William Lawrence Green (1826-1847); to his brother, Dr. Samuel Abbott Green (1830-1918), librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society from 1868 to 1918; lent by Dr. Green, November 21, 1906; bequeathed in 1919.
