Stamped in green glaze on back of plate: "Haviland / France." Written in gold glaze in script: "To / Lincoln W. Fitts / from / his / Mother / 1914."

The artist, Onata North (1871-1946) and her husband, Charles N. Fitts (1870-1945), m. 1897, to their daughter, Doris Lincoln Fitts (b. 1900); to her daughter, Barbara Smith Barnett; to MFA, 2002, gift of Barbara Smith Barnett.
