Human effigy mortar

Cone-shaped mortar rendered as a highly simplified human figure. The slightly convex bottom (grinding surface) of the figure is heavily scored with perpendicular lines.


Acquired from dealers in Ecuador or Peru by William and Shirley Epstein in the 1960's; to MFA, November 1995, gift of William and Shirley Epstein.
