Carved angular backs with masks. Ship in ellipse on heavy splat. Seats carved in very low relief. Panels carved with flowers, leaves, feathers.


Vertical column of four incised horizontal lines carved on back of splat at the base and also on the adjacent seat rail.


History of ownership: Part of the furnishings of the house built in 1842 by Theodore Lyman, Jr. (1792-1849), Heath Street, Brookline, Massachusetts; by descent in the family; 1956, gift of Mrs. Henry Lyman (Accession Date November 8, 1956)
