Revere's most elaborately ornamented, Rococo pieces, these demonstrate the artist's early mastery of his craft. According to tradition, they were made as a wedding gift from Benjamin Greene to his sister-in-law Lucretia Chandler.

Provenance

Lucretia Chandler (1728-1768), m. John Murray of Rutland, September 1, 1761; taken by a privateer from the fleeing Murray family during the Revolutionary War; bought by John Williams; descended to his granddaughter, Anne Williams Seaver, who sold it to Shreve, Crump, and Low, Boston, in 1931.
