Compote

A footed, compote with a pierced and chased abstract floral decoration encircling the base, as well as a matching pierced and chased abstract floral decoration around the flared outer rim of the raised bowl. Hand hammered.

stamped on base: image of a knight on horseback, with letter "K" all within a square; "STERLING"

About 1906/1907, in the collection of the artist or the Handicraft Shop, Boston [see note 1]. About 1907, purchased in Boston by a member of the Blanchard family, Boston; by descent to the Powell family, Asheville, NC; 2012, acquired from the Powell family by Bruce Johnson, Fletcher, NC; 2012, sold by Bruce Johnson to the MFA. (Accession Date: September 26, 2012) NOTES: [1] At this time it was shown at several exhibitions (Detroit Arts and Crafts Society, 1906; Boston Arts and Crafts Society, 1907).
