Candy Dish with Lid

The friction-fitted domed lid of this vessel has been chased with the image of a peony flower and leaves; the design has an incised, circular border. The base has seamed sides and a soldered bottom.

Marks

“HANDWROUGHT,” “HENRY PETZAL,” and “STERLING,” in sans-serif letters, struck incuse in different locations on base. A label affixed to the base reads “Display only 50/6593.”

Provenance

Retained by the artist until made a gift in 1979.
