Inscription

The front board is carved at the top with the date "1702" above the initials "RG."

Provenance

This chest bears the initials "RG," probably for its original, unknown, owner; subsequent history unklnown until acquired by the collector Charles Hitchcock Tyler; 1928, lent by Charles Hitchcock Tyler, October 3, 1928; 1932, included in his bequest to the Museum (Accession Date September 1, 1932)
